The competitive District 7 commission primary has been decided. School Board member Rene Flowers steamrolled through state rep. Wengay Newton and former rep. Frank Peterman Junior, attracting 52% of the vote. She will now face NPA Maria Scruggs and write-in candidate Anthony Hart in the November 3rd general election.
Her win comes despite an avalanche of last-minute negative ads and direct mail from the Newton campaign.
Pinellas County Commission District 7 covers Lealman, South St. Pete, South Pasedena and Gulfport.
Final results:
Rene Flowers – 51.66%
Wengay Newton – 32.83%
Frank Petermen Jr. – 15.5%
